Pat is the National Program Leader for Sustainable Farm Enterprises and Rural Development. She administers a portfolio of research, education, and Extension activities related to farm enterprise sustainability and rural community economic development, including competitive grant programs in Extension Risk Management Education and the ARRA-funded Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers. Pat also serves as the Coordinator of the Virtual Center for Rural America and is the contact for the non-competitive grants to the Regional Rural Development Centers. Pat advises NIFA on the human and social dimensions of agriculture, food, natural resources, and rural livelihoods. She monitors more than 213 Hatch projects related to agricultural economics, markets and trade; consumer behavior; farm business financial management; agricultural cooperatives; agricultural and food policy; rural community economic development; and, rural population dynamics, among others. Pat is the NIFA liaison to the ESCOP Social Science Subcommittee and Colorado State University. Her multistate research, extension, and administrative committees include: Community Health and Resilience; Renewing an Agriculture of the Middle; The New Hispanic South; Patterns of Rural and Small Town Demographic Change in the Aftermath of the Great Recession; Agricultural and Community Development in the American Pacific; and, Reduction of Error in Rural and Agricultural Surveys, among others. Pat recently joined two eXtension Communities of Practice as NIFA Liaison, Cooperatives and Enhancing Rural Capacity.
