Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Foundational Program: Renewable Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment

Agroecosystems includes crop production systems, animal production systems, and pasture, range, and forest lands that are actively managed to provide economic, societal, and environmental benefits for individuals, communities, and society at large. Sustainable management of agroecosystems requires improved understanding of interactions among physical, chemical, and biological processes and their response to changing conditions. It also requires scientific knowledge that integrates the complex interactions between management practices and natural processes in order to anticipate and avoid critical thresholds of irreversible damage or loss. This program anticipates funding projects that reflect diverse spatial and temporal scales across geographic diversity. Single-function Research Projects and Food and Agricultural Science Enhancement (FASE) Grants are expected to address one of the Program Area Priorities of the Renewable Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment area (see Foundational Program RFA for details).
