Multistate Research Committees

Using multistate committees, NIFA partners with the Land-Grant University System and agricultural experiment station researchers to work on animal growth and nutrition. NIFA national program leaders who direct programs with an animal component lead and participate on these committees.

• Committee on Swine Nutrition (NCR-042) studies broad aspects of the nutrition of swine.
• Molecular Mechanisms Regulating Skeletal Muscle Growth and Differentiation (NC-131) is designed to discover basic new fundamental information about the molecular and cellular processes that regulate growth and differentiation of skeletal muscle in meat animals.
• Metabolic Relationships in Supply of Nutrients for Lactating Cows (NC-1009) studies the relationship between feed inputs and milk outputs of cattle
• Beef Cow-Calf Nutrition and Management (NCR-087) studies nutrimental management of beef cows.
• Regulation of Adipose Accretion in Meat Animals (NCR-097) studies the physiological and molecular mechanisms controlling how much and where fat accumulates in meat-producing animals.
• Optimizing Nutrient Utilization by Feedlot Cattle for Growth, Carcass Value and Environmental Concerns (NCR-206) focuses on the development of nutritional and animal growth strategies that address current issues facing the cattle feeding industry, such as profitability, environmental compatibility, and the quality and safety of beef.
• Nutritional Systems for Swine to Increase Reproductive Efficiency (S-1012) aims to maximize sow productivity by optimizing nutrition to improve reproductive performance sow.
