America Saves Week 2014
America Saves Week (ASW) is an annual event to increase awareness of the need to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. Our primary focus during events February 24 – March 1 is on “Financial Action – Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save Automatically.” NIFA, through the Cooperative Extension System, is an active partner with the America Saves Week hosts: Consumer Federation of America and the American Savings Education Council. The goal is to encourage people, particularly lower-income families, to save money and build wealth. ASW events offer information and advice on paying down debt; building an emergency fund; and saving for a home, education, and retirement. Last year, Cooperative Extension programs reached over 358,000 people, with more than 6,000 people setting a savings goal — pledging to save nearly $368,000. Extension educators may use the following resources, help consumers assess their finances and adopt healthy financial habits.
