APLU Commission on the Urban Agenda
The Commission on Urban Initiatives (CUI) is the Association of Public Land-Grant Universities’ (APLU) chief vehicle for focusing on urban issues and programs. It is broadly constituted to encourage participation from other association commissions and councils and is made up of representatives appointed by the CEOs of APLU member institutions and university systems.
Leadership for the commission is provided by its 16-member executive committee, supported by APLU staff. The specific functions of the CUI are as follows:
- To provide leadership within APLU on major urban issues that affect member institutions and their communities.
- To advocate policies, positions, and legislative strategies to further the urban agenda at national, state, and city levels.
- To foster the development of programs and projects of special interest to universities having a strong commitment to urban areas, and the solution of urban community problems.
NIFA supports and provides leadership with APLU and the Commission on the Urban Agenda and is a member of its executive committee.
