USDA Research and Promotion Boards

USDA-AMS and USDA-NIFA (4-H) both share the goal of connecting youth to policy makers, such as the policy makers who administer research and promotion dollars on behalf of various industries. AMS and NIFA have joined together to identify ways that current policy makers could serve as mentors to youth – the future policy makers.

The Mentoring Options list provides different options for mentorship activities that board and 4-H members can engage in based on the levels of time and interest that they may have.  These options range from one day job shadows, potlucks after board meetings to discuss the work of the boards, possible apprenticeships, virtual mentorships, and big industry-wide competitions.  The purpose of this list is to provide a sampling of partnership ideas.  Either 4-H or the boards can initiate a partnership.
