Risk Management Planning for Agritourism Operators
With the USDA Risk Management Agency and the Western Center for Risk Management Education, NIFA supports Risk Management Planning For California Agritourism Operators. By integrating tourism with agriculture, this project adds value, sustainability, and important additional income sources for California 's small-scale farm operators.
Risk is as the most significant restraint to agritourism development. Through workshops, the project provides educational information on understanding and managing risks associated with agritourism and for preparing business plans to mitigate, reduce, or shift risks. Business plans considered market, financial, institutional, and human and legal risks. A manual for planning and managing agritourism and nature tourism enterprises was published. The Western Center for Risk Management Education, one of four risk management education centers supported by NIFA, funded the project.
To read the project's final report is available from the National Ag Risk Education Library.
