Frontiers of Soil Science
Workshop
The National Academy of Science-sponsored Frontiers
of Soil Science project organized a workshop of
soil science experts to address emerging
research opportunities. Participants:
- identified soil science research priorities;
- identified inter-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary
soil science research areas, particularly
in the field of biogeoscience;
- addressed the role of federal funding
in soil science research, and;
- identified technological and computational
needs in advancing soil science.
Workshop participants were primarily scientists
in academia and industry/consulting, and
those who would recognize the importance
of integrating the biological, geological,
and chemical sciences within soil science.
Project sponsors included the U.S. Department
of Energy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's
Agricultural Research Service, and the Soil
Science Society of America.
