Mid-Atlantic Regional Water Coordination Program Receives Award for Magazine Article

The American Agricultural Economics Association (AAEA) announced their selection of a 2007 Choices article entitled, "Water Quality Trading and Agriculture: Recognizing the Challenges and Policy Issues Ahead," to receive the 2008 AAEA Best Choices Article Award. Choices is a magazine published by AAEA that addresses food, farm, and resources issues. The award recognizes the outstanding contribution of the article to improved understanding and improved policies.

Water quality credit trading is being promoted as a way to more cheaply and quickly reach water quality goals. The article discusses the key elements of water quality credit trading, challenges to making it work in the agricultural water quality context, evidence of performance to date, and policy issues.

The Water Quality Trading article was written by Charles Abdalla, Tatiana Borisova, Douglas Parker, and Kristen Saacke Blunk. Abdalla and Parker are leading the water quality trading efforts for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Water Coordination Program, one of 10 regional programs funded by a grant from the NIFA National Integrated Water Program.

The American Agricultural Economics Association will formally present the award to the authors in a ceremony to be held during the 2008 AAEA annual meeting in Orlando, FL, from July 27 to 29, 2008.
