Water Quality and Food Safety Conference
The NIFA Southwest States & Pacific Islands Regional Water Program is cosponsoring a conference titled "Coordinated Management of Water Quality Protection & Food Safety Initiatives in California Vegetable Production."
Recent events have focused attention on the challenges posed by jointly addressing water quality and food safety issues in fresh vegetable production, processing, and ultimately consumption. This situation offers a unique opportunity for collaboration where entities can combine expertise and science to resolve emerging challenges between water quality and food safety practices.
Science, education, and extension professionals from universities, non-governmental organizations, and private industry will focus on the challenge of co-managing on-farm water quality management practices with food safety initiatives. The goal is to protect the environment and human health associated with the production and consumption of cool season vegetables. The conference provides a forum for scientists and professionals to address challenges in co-management of water quality protection practices and food safety good agricultural practices in cool-season vegetable production in California.
The Southwest States & Pacific Islands Regional Water Coordination Program is one of 10 regional programs under the NIFA National Integrated Water Program.
