Building Natural Resources
Capacity
Funded by a NIFA-administered grant, tribal
colleges and land-grant universities in Midwestern
states are cooperating to build natural resources
capacity in the colleges. Participating institutions
are Fort Berthold and Nebraska Indian community
colleges; Sitting Bull College; Sinte Gleska
University; Iowa State, North Dakota State,
and South Dakota State universities; and
the University of Nebraska.
The project has
permitted each of the tribal colleges to
hire a natural resources instructor. Each
college is also conducting research projects
and is expanding its natural resources curricular
offerings. The land-grant universities provide
expertise to the tribal college program-building
activities.
