NIFA Invests $3.7M in Potato Breeding Research

USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture has funded four projects for $3.7 million to support regional potato research and Extension work that has great potential for developing and releasing new potato varieties with a high value to the commercial U.S. potato industry. The Special Research Grants Program Potato Breeding Research competitive program focuses on the development, testing and release of superior commercial potato varieties using classical breeding and advanced molecular and biotechnological approaches. By bringing together expertise across multiple universities, federal agencies, industry organizations and states, the program seeks to enhance the effectiveness of limited state, federal, and industry resources and accelerate the development of superior varieties that produce benefits to the potato industry.
