USDA NIFA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Disease program (AFRI A1222), a collaborative program with the National Science Foundation, supports quantitative and computational research leading to fundamental understandings of infectious disease processes from evolution of virulence and resistance to the impact of biotic and abiotic factors on disease transmission and spread.
NIFA recently provided funding for a project focused on understanding how individual behavior impacts disease spread over space and time for white-tailed deer infected with Chronic Wasting Disease. Funding has also been provided to a team focused on understanding the role of long-distance dispersal in multiple animal and plant disease processes.
