NIFA’s mission is to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. NIFA’s investments in transformative science directly support the long-term prosperity and global preeminence of U.S. agriculture. Increased access to scientific research results (i.e. scholarly publications, digital data sets); education (i.e. curriculum and training products, number of students graduated); and extension (i.e. outreach materials, number of stakeholders’ reached) data from NIFA-funded projects is critical to achieving NIFA’s vision to catalyze transformative discoveries, education, and engagement to address agricultural challenges. Therefore, an appropriate data management plan (DMP) should be a core component of the research, education, and extension planning for applications submitted to NIFA.
Beginning in Fiscal Year 2019, NIFA is requesting DMPs for all competitive grants programs.
- Data Management Plan for Research, Education, and Extension Projects document (see below) provides guidance for the requested DMP in the respective Request for Applications.
- Data Management Plan FAQs document (see below) provides frequently asked questions from applicants on the DMP requirement for applications.
- Implementation of Data Management Plan Training video (see below) provides the DMP requirement, including DMP in review criteria, and handling DMP during review process, award processing and post-award management for panel managers and program staff.
