Data Science in Agriculture Summit
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) convened a summit in October 2016 to identify the frontiers and future of data in agriculture and build on existing U.S. government-wide efforts and investments in Big Data.
SUMMIT DETAILSNIFA Director Dr. Sonny Ramaswamy addressed summit participants and launched the Food and Agriculture Cyberinformatics and Tools (FACT) Initiative. The summit also featured a set of visionary talks from leaders in the fields of data science and agriculture and facilitated participant discussions on an array of topics to identify new opportunities for data science in agriculture. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Midwest Big Data Hub All-Hands Meeting in Chicago, Ill.
In FY 2017, all AFRI Foundational Program priorities that accept conference grant applications also welcome submission of workshop applications that address the FACT Initiative. The submitted workshops should focus on identifying priorities and bottlenecks in generating, managing and integrating data in a specific domain of the food and agricultural system.
