Farm Business Management and Benchmarking Competitive Grants Program (FBMB)

Overview

The Farm Business Management and Benchmarking (FBMB) program helps agricultural producers strengthen their financial and business management skills. By supporting education, data sharing, and access to high-quality farm financial information, the program aims to improve the long-term economic success of farms and ranches across the United States.

The FBMB program places a strong emphasis on helping producers strengthen their financial management skills through training, education, and access to reliable benchmarking tools. It prioritizes expanding and improving the national FINBIN database by supporting projects that collect high‑quality farm financial data from a wide range of crops, livestock, regions, and farm sizes. The program encourages collaboration among states, farm management associations, and education programs to create consistent data and broaden participation. It also supports the development of innovative extension approaches and user‑friendly tools that make financial information more accessible, helping producers manage uncertainty, respond to changing conditions, and make informed decisions that support long‑term business resilience.

The FBMB program aims to make high-quality farm financial information widely accessible so producers can make informed, data-driven decisions. By expanding and improving the national benchmarking database, the program helps increase the number and diversity of farms represented in the data, including different regions, commodities, and farm sizes. These efforts enable producers to compare their operations to similar farms, better understand their financial performance, and identify opportunities for improvement. Overall, the program supports more profitable, resilient farm businesses and contributes to stronger rural economies.
