Collaboration with CGIAR

NIFA and CGIAR have exchanged letters to promote international collaboration between NIFA-funded researchers and researchers at CGIAR's 15 centers.

CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secure future. Its research is carried out by 15 CGIAR centers in close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, development organizations and the private sector. CGIAR has developed a Strategy and Results Framework which provides the overall strategic direction and research priorities for its global programs and platforms. With a recent exchange of letters, NIFA intends to explore two activities of mutual interest to NIFA and the CGIAR system:

  1. Opportunities for NIFA-supported researchers to spend time undertaking research at CGIAR centers; and
  2. Opportunities for CGIAR-supported researchers and NIFA-supported researchers to share information, discuss technical innovations in agriculture, and to propose and participate in collaborative research that can improve food and nutritional security, and improve resources and ecosystem services.

Are you interested in exploring a sabbatical at a CGIAR center? Are you interested in exploring collaborative research involving a CGIAR center? For more information on this partnership, please see the exchange of letters between NIFA and CGIAR.  For more information on the collaboration between the U.S. and CGIAR, please see the CGIAR brochure. The point of contact at CGIAR is André Zandstra Head, Funder & External Engagement, CGIAR System Organization.

For collaboration particularly with the CGIAR system's International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, CIMMYT, a point of contact there directly is Victor Maurice Kommerell, Strategic Partnerships Specialist, Project Management.
