Nutrition and Health Committee for Planning and Guidance

The Nutrition and Health Committee for Planning and Guidance, formed in 2008, works with NIFA national program leaders (NPL) to strategically position extension programs for the future. Committee members represent all regions of the country and are from the 1862 and 1890 land-grant institutions.

Two objectives in the 2009 Strategic Opportunities for Cooperative Extension, Executive Summary, published by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, help direct the committee’s efforts to:

  • Ensure an abundant and safe food supply for all
  • Help families, youth, and individuals to become physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy

Key Activities

The committee’s work is focused on five key activities:

  • Evaluation indicators
  • Social media and emerging technologies
  • Nutrition and physical activity policies and programs
  • Professional training
  • External partner communication and engagement

The committee is a resource and voice for NPLs to invite new members, solicit ideas, and seek support for committee activities.
