VMLRP Veterinary Shortage Situation Nomination Guide
The goal of the VMLRP is to encourage food supply veterinarians to serve in areas across the U.S. that have the most serious veterinary shortage situations in exchange for veterinary education loan repayment.
These nominations fill the growing need for food supply veterinarians to serve in areas identified by them within their state for the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP). This is a step-by-step guide for State Animal Health Officials (SAHOs) and their staff to prepare and submit veterinary shortage situation area nominations.

VMLRP Shortage Situation Nomination Allocation
The Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) allows each state to nominate a set number of Veterinarian Shortage Situations each fiscal year. The VMLRP Maximum Nomination Allocation table contains the maximum number of shortage situations each state can nominate as a shortage. If a nomination is carried over from a previous year to the following, the total combined number of new and carry-over nominations cannot exceed the maximum number allocated.
The reasoning behind the use and development of the allocation table is provided in the Allocation Rationale document.
