American communities depend on a safe and reliable water supply. Through research, education, and extension, NIFA water programs provide basic knowledge and learning opportunities needed to address agricultural water quality and quantity issues.
The research, extension, and education programs funded by NIFA also form the nexus for partnerships with other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations working cooperatively to protect and improve the nation's water resources. In addition to non-capacity grants, NIFA provides support for research and extension activities at land-grant institutions through grants to the states on the basis of statutory formulas. Eligibility is limited to the cooperating institutions, most of which are 1862, 1890, and 1994 land-grant institutions.
