January 2017 - IFSN Seminar

On January 24, 2017, Martin Bourque, Ecology Center, presented "Changing Habits: Californian Carrots and Sticks for Health Eating." This seminar has been approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 1.0 Continuing Professional Education Unit (CEU).*

These monthly seminars aim to disseminate new knowledge; engage with partners and stakeholders; and inspire the next generation of food safety and nutrition experts. Seminar Overview

This presentation will augment participant’s understanding of strategies that seek to improve health by increasing the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and decreasing the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages. Participants will gain first hand insights regarding the use of healthy food incentives at farmers’ markets through the Ecology Center’s California wide Market Match program. Participants will also gain firsthand insights into passing the nation’s first municipal soda tax and the current programs funded by the tax to reduce the consumption of unnecessary calories through sugar sweetened beverages.
