The National Needs Fellowship (NNF) functions collaboratively with eligible higher education institutions to develop intellectual capital to ensure the preeminence of U.S. food and agricultural systems. Eligible institutions may apply; this grant opportunity is not available to individuals. In FY 2023, the NNF program trains students new to masters and/or doctoral degree programs. Fellowships and Special International Study or Thesis/Dissertation Research Travel Allowances (IRTA) are specifically intended to support graduate programs that encourage outstanding students to pursue and complete their degrees in areas where there is an identified national need for the development of scientific and professional personnel.
