Institute of Food Safety and Nutrition (IFSN)
Overview
Although the nation’s food supply ranks among the safest in the world, the country faces challenges from new and emerging foodborne pathogens, as well as those that are growing resistant to treatment. The Institute of Food Safety and Nutrition (NIFA) is the extramural science-funding agency within USDA’s Research, Education and Economics mission area. NIFA invests in and supports initiatives that ensure the long-term viability of agriculture. NIFA provides funding and strategic leadership for programs that ensure groundbreaking discoveries in agriculture-related sciences and technologies reach the people who can put them into practice.

IFSN Staff Attend 38th Annual MANRRS Conference
IFSN staff Dr. Jodi Williams and Ryan Kornegay joined the NIFA Agency delegation to the 38th National MANRRS Conference. With over 2,000 attendees, NIFA and other REE agencies worked to engage with students through workshops, panels, the MANRRS career fair, and the Next Gen Mixer (Sponsored by The REE Undersecretary's Office).
They also served as judges for a number of research and other national competitions. Sec. Vilsack also greeted and engage with MANRRS attendees through a Fireside chat, followed by a Panel discussion with Undersecretary Jacobs-Young on the following day with Next Gen Scholars.
