Division of Plant Systems-Production

Goals

Through partnerships with universities, the private sector, and federal agencies, the division promotes programs that address national and international food security and sustainability challenges. Innovation takes place in classrooms, laboratories, fields, greenhouses, and communities throughout the nation at scales ranging from individual gene function to entire agricultural systems.

  • Catalyze advancements in plant breeding, genetics, and  genomics, including assessment of bioengineering risks
  •  Support research systems-based processes to discover solutions to specialty crop production issues
  • Conduct research on plant biological mechanisms to find solutions for drought and pest resistance
  • Support organic, urban, and indoor farming methods and production
  • Provide oversight for Sustainable Agricultural Research and Education
  • Serve as a central source for strategic leadership regarding national plant production, from gene function to entire plant-based system production
