Programs

NIFA programs are the mechanism by which we pursue our mission to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. Some programs administer funding and offer leadership while others focus on national leadership and collaboration. For more information on a particular program, use the site’s search tool.

Farm Safety

NIFA addresses farm safety by supporting Cooperative Extension Service programs that train youth and adult farm workers in safe field practices, equipment use, and equipment maintenance and help farmers with disabilities and their families maintain engagement in production agriculture.

Markets, Trade & Policy

Successful marketing - getting products from producers to domestic and international consumers - is vital to the well-being of U.S. farmers and ranchers, and to the health of the economy as a whole.

Food Safety

NIFA's food safety program funds research, education and extension activities to improve the safety of the food supply.

Leadership & Volunteer Development

NIFA promotes leadership and volunteer development through its participation in interagency federal government teams; funding support for volunteer leader forums, national conferences, and community training opportunities; and research focusing on building volunteer competencies.

Animal & Plant Biosecurity

NIFA and its land-grant university partners play a major role in helping to monitor and prevent disease outbreaks.

Aquaculture

NIFA provides leadership and funding for aquaculture research, technology development, and extension education to help meet increasing global seafood demand, leading to improved health, vibrant economies, and food security.
