USDA NIFA and APHIS Invest $8.7M in AFRI Projects Targeting SARS-CoV-2

In June 2022, NIFA and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced a collaborative funding opportunity within several AFRI Foundational and Applied Sciences program area priorities, including Agricultural Biosecurity (A1181), Diseases of Agricultural Animals (A1221), Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (A1222), and Interdisciplinary Engagement in Animal Systems (A1261). 

This collaborative effort enabled APHIS to provide funding support for research projects in line with APHIS priorities surrounding SARS-CoV-2. As a result, nine awards totaling $8,792,053 were funded in three program areas Agricultural Biosecurity (A1181) – 4 awards; Diseases of Agricultural Animals (A1221) – 4 awards; and Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (A1222) – 1 award.
