Dr. Ahlishia Shipley has a professional path reflective of her passion to support healthy, resilient families and communities. Dr. Shipley serves as the Capacity Program Leader at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) where she leads agency initiatives and programs to build capacity within our partner communities and to promote broad participation and excellent customer experience in USDA programs.
Before returning to NIFA in 2021, she served as the Scientific Review Officer at the National Institutes of Health where she led peer review for extramural research. Dr. Shipley previously served as a National Program Leader and Program Specialist at NIFA from 2011-2019, providing leadership and funding administration for research, education, and extension for family and community health.
Dr. Shipley has training as both an educator and a researcher, earning a B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, an M.S. in Career and Technical Education, and a Ph.D. in Family Studies, all from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Shipley has served as an adjunct faculty member and volunteers as a family life educator. Her experiences have culminated in a sincere appreciation for comprehensive teaching and outreach that is firmly rooted in research.
