Christian serves as a National Program Leader. In this role he works with stakeholder groups and other funding agencies to coordinate and strengthen plant breeding programs at NIFA. Christian came to the agency in 2021. Prior to joining NIFA, he worked for 19 years as a Research Molecular Biologist at the USDA Agricultural Research Service, and for 5 years at a small plant biotechnology company. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Plant Biology from Cornell University in 1995 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Plant Biology from the University of California in 1989.
